Elected President of Zambia

Won the presidential election with a historic and decisive margin, securing over 2.8 million votes and defeating the incumbent in a peaceful democratic transition. 2016-2021

Leader of Opposition

Served as President of the United Party for National Development (UPND), leading the opposition with unwavering commitment despite facing numerous challenges. During this period, he championed democratic values, advocated for economic transformation, and consistently spoke out against corruption and mismanagement. His persistent advocacy for better governance and economic policies resonated with millions of Zambians who sought change, building a strong grassroots movement that would eventually lead to electoral victory.

Elected to Parliament

First elected as Member of Parliament, marking the official beginning of his political career in national service.
